Antibiotic rinse is a beneficial adjunct in the treatment of periodontal disease

 

A 2013 study  demonstrates that combining mechanical removal of plaque with an antibiotic mouth rinse is a highly effective treatment for periodontitis.

 

Following full scaling and root planing, the patients in the study who had refractory periodontitis, had healthier gingival tissues with fewer bleeding points and a decrease in periodontal pocket depth.
